Requirements
The courses in English division are given in two languages: English and Turkish. An excellent command of English is a prerequisite for students to be enrolled in the program. The students should be successful in the written examination done by the Assessment Selection and Placement Center (OSYM). Those able to pass English proficiency exam starts their first years in the department. Those unable to pass the proficiency exam are enrolled in English Prepatory Program. Throughout four academic years, students are provided with translation and interpreting courses. In the fourth year, students may choose between two specialized tracks of study: Written translation or Interpretation. Candidates for the Interpretation track must pass a written and oral examination administrated by the school exam committee. German as foreign language is compulsory for the students. However they are not expected to do translation from/to German. There are diverse job opportunities for students in different public institutions (such as TRT, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Education), publishing houses, periodicals, film studios and international institutions. The students who particularly master in interpreting may work as conference interpreters in different fields such as medicina, law, automotive.The students who hold pedagogic formation may work as teachers at schools. They themselves may start a busisness and create their own work field.
