Department of Translation and Interpreting
Established in 2009 under the Faculty of Letters at Ege University, our department ranks among the most preferred translation and interpreting departments in Türkiye according to national student placement statistics (ÖSYM).
Academic Programs
The department offers education at both undergraduate and graduate levels through four distinct programs:
• German Translation and Interpreting (B.A. – Faculty of Letters)
• English Translation and Interpreting (B.A. – Faculty of Letters)
• Translation Studies (M.A. with Thesis – Graduate School of Social Sciences)
• Translation Studies (Ph.D. – Graduate School of Social Sciences)

Educational Objective
Our mission is to equip future translators and interpreters with foundational and advanced translation competencies, combining rigorous theoretical grounding and critical thinking with extensive hands-on translation practice.
Specialized Curriculum
The curriculum encompasses both written translation and conference interpreting (consecutive and simultaneous). Courses cover literary translation, media texts, and domain-specific areas including legal, technical, and economic translation.
Research & Method
In addition to practical translation workshops, our undergraduate programs provide students with a strong background in scientific research methods, establishing an essential foundation for post-graduate academic studies.
Internship and Global Exchange Opportunities
To bridge the gap between academic education and professional career paths, students are required to complete a compulsory 20-workday translation internship following their sixth semester. Students gain professional experience in corporate translation agencies, government institutions, media organizations, and international bodies.
International Experience: Through international exchange programs (Erasmus+) and bilateral cooperation agreements, our students have the opportunity to study abroad, broaden their cultural horizons, and develop advanced multilingual expertise in international academic environments.
